Over the past few years, my life has undergone significant changes. Feeling trapped, I began contemplating the concept of fate. This project documents my journey of exploring 'fate' by surveying people from diverse backgrounds. It is a data-visualized outcome of my research, presented as an interactive storytelling website that showcases opinions on 'Fate' from people with various perspectives.

Design ProcessSURVEY QUESTIONSI started with a survey for my thesis journey, asking my friends about how they perceive fate. I hope by understanding other people’s opinions, it will help me better comprehend the concept of fate.

The survey questions could be divided into three categories: demographics, views on fate, and views on fortune-telling.

DESIGN PROCESS Site Map
After collecting and analyzing my survey results, I identified four main topics to demonstrate on my website. Based on this, I designed my sitemap:

Index
I also designed the indexing system. I created various shapes in different colors to represent people with different religious beliefs. My research found that people's views on fate are closely related to their religious beliefs. Therefore, I planned to demonstrate the comparison.

Final OutcomeStarts
The overall experience starts from the onboarding and index pages.

Sub PageThere are four sub-pages in total, each visualizing answers to one question about fate from my survey.
‘How to define fate in one sentence?’The answers are displayed one by one on this page. Hovering over each answer will reveal more details. ‘Does suffering or enjoyment strengthen belief in fate more?’I ranked the participants' answers from "suffering" to "enjoyment." Hovering over each answer will change its color to indicate the responder's religious belief.
‘Fate is predetermined, or is it changeable?’ This page displays people's beliefs on whether fate is predetermined or changeable, alongside their religious beliefs.

‘How does belief in fate transform, as we age?’Each vertical strip represents how one of the participants' belief in fate changes. When hovering over one strip, more explanation shows up.
